MINDUPS

Nature challenges each of us mentally, physically and spiritually is age-old wisdom. That Adventure and Wilderness Exploration make us smarter, healthier and happier becomes apparent when we remember that the Mind is a muscle like any other in the Human body. Our mental faculties rely on exercise and “progressive adaptation” to build strength and flexibility regardless of our age. The Human brain shares another trait common to every muscle group; the weakening of prolonged atrophy. What strength and stamina we choose not to use, we soon forfeit. “Use it or lose it” is a “total body” ailment.

Scientists and Doctors now tell us that “thinking on our feet” enhances our overall health and well being by challenging our neurons to form diverse and deeper connections. Nature pushes our neurons into ever increasing wilderness lands and they respond with an innate fervor.

Mindups, not unlike pushups, pullups, chinups or situps, Mindups naturally boost our intelligence, mental flexibility and strength all the while reducing the everyday stress and tension plaguing so many today. As physical exercise helps to “burn stored fat supplies”, Mindups Immediately begin to reduce the “psycho-fat and flab” of apathy, lethargy and depression.

20-Minute Victories

Exercise and stretching of a muscle followed by periods of rest and recovery, is also a very important aspect of our overall mental health and well-being. When we divide our day (24 hrs) into twenty minute segments, we have 72 opportunities, to enhance our mind’s abilities, to create new paths of communications between neighboring neurons and to stretch our mental and philosophical flexibility.

For many years I have been especially concerned with the skyrocketing numbers of adults and children who struggle with issues of weight and physical and mental inactivity; atrophy is a total body ailment. That said, from crib to coffin, many of us spend a large percentage of our time in protective boxes. We live in boxes and give them addresses. We experience our world through tiny electric boxes in our living rooms and on our desks and call it “the truth”. We commute to and from our work boxes in motorized boxes hoping to one day retire into a more comfortable and secure box. Soon our mind and our vision has no alternative but to comprehend everything around us in a prepackaged box. All we know are restrictions and boundaries. We smother our flexibility, creativity and passion all in favor of the status quo. So we struggle and grope towards our final resting box. To those folks whose trail reaches from the refrigerator to the remote control, here is our suggestion…

“Get off the couch and out of your box. Get moving and live your life, not the lives of others on the electronic box. Be your own hero. Be your own guru. Take your own confession. Find adventure where you find yourself. Remember, adventure needn’t be extreme, it just needs to be yours!”
