Our Planet
Whenever I here terms like “global warming,” “severe climate change” or “planet in peril,” I wonder if these popular catch phrases don’t share some of the blame for the very misfortunes they rail against. The call to “Save the Earth” or to “Go Green” is a major part of the overall problem it seems. It implies that we are somehow “other” from that which we are protecting, that we are separate from that which we are saving. We are so busy protesting the environmental homicide taking place all around us, that we turn our backs on the only truth that can save us. We cannot separate our-selves from our-planet. What we do to the planet we do to ourselves. The planet isn’t in peril, our people are. Any talk of global warming is a discussion in suicide.
If you drive your car at 100 MPH into a tree along the roadside, are you killing the car or are the chances pretty good that you are killing yourself?
Destroying “the planet” isn’t a sadistic act, it is the ultimate definition of masochism. A healthy future for humanity depends on our ability to direct our pity where it is most needed. You want to feel sorry for something, feel sorry for yourself, or better yet your children or grandchildren. Why bother with compassion for the Earth? The planet will survive and thrive long after we are gone.
As long as we continue to speak as if we are walled-off from our planet’s demise, we will only serve to expedite it and in doing so, exterminate ourselves.
