We The People
The roots of the Human Family Tree extend all the way back to “the” very beginning, actually 13.73 billion years ago. That’s a long way back, at least according to some of my scientist friends. Some of my other friends, inclined to believe in the early books of the Bible, look at 5,700 years as the age of humanity. 13.73 billion or 5,700 years. Where do we go from here?
We can spend the next few moments calculating, debating, ultimately siding with one or the other of these two figures or we can look beyond the partisanship of these dueling factions…Science and Religion.
Big Bang or Big Breath? An exploding cosmic fireball or the exhale of an almighty God?
Did we walk out of Africa or were we banished from Eden?
Descent with modification or disobeying the forbidden fruit rule?
Do you side with the opinions of the petri dish or those of the pulpit?
Between the polarities, there is one inescapable origin we can’t ignore, our planet is the common ground, literally the ground we share is the starting point of all that we are.
Earth, it’s where we come from. At base, this elemental source is one that is latent in each one of us. From a Savannah or a Garden, dirt is dirt, the soil, the mud that holds the roots of the human family tree is the very same Dirt in YOUR DNA.
When it comes to battling those actively or apathetically pursuing the destruction of our planet, our challenge, you and me, right now, is to never forget where we come from and to combat that amnesia in others, wherever we can. For those that treat our planet as a stepping stone to some future heaven or those treating Mother Nature as an entitlement, our goal is to find ways of reminding them where they come from.
